Apple Battery Recalls

Apple has announced recalls for three different batteries used in iBooks, PowerBooks and MacBooks. Apple is unable to provide a comprehensive list of affected systems purchased by Cal Poly. All batteries for laptops purchased between October 2003 and present will need to be visually inspected per Apple's instructions (linked below) to determine if they qualify for replacement. If qualification is confirmed, follow Apple's instructions to get a replacement battery.

RECALL #1

Following closely on the heels of Dell's recent announcement, Apple has announced a recall of 1.8 million Sony batteries which may have shipped in iBooks and PowerBooks purchased between October 2003 and August 2006. More information can be found here:

RECALL #2

In addition (and less widely publicized), Apple is replacing batteries from LG (another manufacturer) which may have shipped in iBooks and PowerBooks purchased between October 2004 and May 2005. More information can be found here:

RECALL #3

Last, but not least, Apple is also replacing batteries (manufacturer unknown) which may have shipped in the new MacBooks and MacBook Pros purchased between February 2006 and May 2006. More information can be found here:
